Food for Thought....
As a way to make some money this summer, I've been in charge of the summer school computer lab. This means, I don't have to teach the students anything, but those who signed up for the online courses but don't have internet access have somewhere to go. Since I've been supervising my nonexistent students (everyone has internet access now), I've had lots of time to watch morning tv. On Good Morning America this morning, they were discussing the new, stricter USDA guidelines on nutrition. (Link to article below) Apparently, we are to focus on making a shift to a plant-based diet. Not necessarily vegetarian...but less meat/animal products.
This is music to my ears...except for the occasional steak, burger, or chicken fingers...I could probably be a vegetarian. (If there was such a term for someone who could live off of carbs alone...that would fit me even better!) However, they are also reducing the RDA for sodium. STINK! Sneaky Sodium is in EVERYTHING!!! I've been trying to be a healthy eater for a while now, and let me plug my favorite website here....Nutrimirror.com. Its an easy way to see, not only the calories, but the nutrients in your daily foods. (and its free!)
