Here Goes...
Ok, first post.....
Hello all, for those who do not know me, I've been teaching middle school now for three years. I went to school to teach Social Studies, but somehow landed in an 8th grade English position. My desperate attempts to escape Language Arts have failed, and for the foreseeable future, I am stuck. I do enjoy my students (most of the time), and I am learning to enjoy my subject area. However, I am sure that there will be many posts in which I will vent, whine, or complain about my plight.
On the other hand, I am extremely lucky to have a job in the current economy, so I don't plan on making this blog completely negative. I would like to post a little about everything I enjoy: food, cats, working out, trying new things, friends, family, etc.
*As a side note: for anyone tempted to take the time to edit my blog for grammar, usage, or mechanics...do not be surprised that this "accidental" English teacher is not perfect. I am thankful for those people who can devote such attention to detail....but I am not one of them yet!

There is nothing accidental about your being an English teacher! You could get out of it pretty easily I would imagine. Just do a bad job, don't have so many kids pass their tests.
But you can't..... you, my friend, are a TEACHER! It doesn't matter if you are teaching social studies, english, or even math! You will do wonderfully in all of them because you care! You care about the kids and about doing your best. You are an excellent teacher and administration sees that and has put you in a position of great responsibility, because they trust that you will do your best and get results. Which, you do!
SO, until you are prepared to fail your kids and at your job, you are probably stuck being a great English teacher.
Personally, I think it makes you a better teacher to NOT be as strong in English as in other subjects. Helps you appreciate that not all the kids will "get" English/Grammar.
The price you pay for being an over achiever is nothing compared to the price everyone else pays if you weren't.
Love you
Thanks....I miss you being here...too bad the FBI doesn't think Chattanooga is a "big" city!
Welcome to blogging!!!
